‘Alchymist’ is a vigorous climbing rose with an upright growth habit, capable of reaching heights between 6 to 20 feet, making it suitable for covering large structures. The blooms are large, very full, and old-fashioned in form, displaying a blend of yellow and orange shades. The flowers emit a strong fragrance, adding a delightful sensory experience to the garden. ‘Alchymist’ is known for its once-blooming cycle in spring or summer, producing an abundant display during its flowering period. The foliage is typical of climbing roses, providing a lush backdrop to the vibrant blooms. This rose is particularly noted for its hardiness, thriving in USDA zones 4b through 9b, and is ideal for gardeners seeking a robust climber for expansive spaces.

This rose is stunning. Can sometimes be pinker in cold weather. Although only once blooming, will bloom for a good 6 weeks solid. It needs ericaceous feed on my limey soil.
Same plant, different weather.
Though a once-bloomer officially, I have found that mine will give a smaller, second flush of blooms about a month after the first finishes, if provided with fertilizer and enough water. In cool, bright springs the flowers can be very richly coloured (as seen here), but they do fade to peachy-cream with heat. The intense & delicious fragrance remains the same regardless.
In a warm spring, on a well established plant, the flowering is spectacular!!
Stunning! I am hoping mine will look like this next year.
I got mine about 20 years ago, at a Victoria Horticultural Society meeting I attended w my ex-MIL. It was a pencil-sized rooted cutting from the now long defunct nursery on Hornby Island. I have never regretted the purchase!
I have seen this lovely once-bloomer in town. Stunning and hardy here in 5b
